HOSPICE CARE
Wedgetail Retreat
Wedgetail Retreat is a purpose-built, spacious four-bedroom Hospice based just outside Murwillumbah in the NSW Far North Coast hinterland. It is a tranquil alternative to a busy hospital or nursing home for respite or end-of-life care for people with a life-limiting illness. The Hospice is the only adults’ community hospice in NSW and is not funded by NSW Health.
The Hospice was officially opened in February 2015 with trained volunteer palliative carers and Registered Nurses providing 24/7 support and care. Wedgetail Retreat is a community hospice that services the Northern Rivers region of NSW and surrounding areas.
To access our service, people may request it themselves or be referred by a doctor or other health professional. Prospective clients are assessed to ensure the service is suited to their needs. Those who can, donate to support their daily nursing care.
Our facility complements the palliative care resources provided by local area health services and community health teams. Your doctor is encouraged to visit but if they are unable, we have a Palliative Care Doctor available.
We welcome family, friends and even a client’s pet to this inclusive uplifting environment that includes home-cooked meals, extensive gardens, wrap-around timber verandah with rainforest views to inspire. Family members are also welcome to stay. Wedgetail Retreat is one of those special places that provide care and support when you need it most.
